Eric Z. - A Reflection before my Yale Journey
As I stand on the threshold of an exhilarating college adventure, I’d like to reflect on the cherished memories that have shaped me, beginning with my elementary school days.
I've had the immense pleasure of working with Dr. Li since the third grade. Over this period of 9 years, the nature and content of my studies with him have varied drastically, but one thing remained quite constant: his dedication to his students' success. He genuinely wanted me to succeed, (and when I was younger) sometimes more than I did. Whether it was 4th grade math/language acceleration, preparation for a variety of standardized tests (AP/SAT), or guidance regarding the college application process, I could tell that Dr. Li was just as invested in my story as I was.
I could go on and on about how helpful this was in each individual step of the way, but doing so would take away from the comprehensive nature of his services. I do, however, recall the same attitude Dr. Li came to me with during my elementary school days on reading exercises, and that being the same attitude he exhibited when explaining to me an AP Calculus problem or strategies for my Early Admissions plan. He took responsibility for my learning and always stayed with me until my questions were answered, my curiosities satisfied. A genuine investment in your own success allows him to push you, to motivate you, and to encourage you with all the resources he has available.
Looking back, I'd say the services here at MathEnglish pushed me quite a bit over the years. Very early on, it sparked a good portion of my ambition and developed my confidence. Starting from the 4th grade, it was through the after-school programs at MathEnglish Academy that gave me the confidence to say "Yes, I am capable of high achievement. Yes, I am capable of doing better." I'm now headed to Yale University to study Computer Science, and looking back, I could see how much of my time with Dr. Li and his team has contributed to both my direction and magnitude in this respect.
